Restore a dead or dying laptop battery
Laptop batteries are expensive. If your laptop still works fine, why spend upwards of $100 on a new battery? In most cases the battery pack itself can be repaired.
How a laptop battery works
Most laptop batteries are “smart”: a chemical battery — a pack of lithium cells, usually 18650s — managed by a digital battery, a small circuit board called the BMS. The BMS talks to the laptop through a protocol called SMBus (System Management Bus), reporting the charge level, cycle count and health.
When a single cell weakens, or when the BMS reaches its cycle limit or locks itself after an error, the laptop reports the whole battery as dead — even when most of the pack is still usable. That is exactly what we fix.
How we repair laptop batteries
- 18650 cell replacement — weak or dead cells are replaced with new, matched cells at real capacity.
- BMS cycle reset — the cycle counter and error flags are reset so the laptop recognises the battery again.
- BMS replacement (2S, 3S, 4S) — a faulty protection board is replaced.
- Cell calibration — the battery learns its true capacity, so the charge indicator is accurate.
- Smart test discharge — every repaired pack is tested under load before it goes back to you.
The same work applies to lithium power walls and other lithium battery packs.
Make your battery last longer
With a lithium-ion battery, you can extend its life by keeping your laptop cool. A laptop that gets very hot damages the battery and shortens its life. Use it on a hard, flat surface so air can circulate, and don’t leave it in a hot car or in direct sun.
